REPAIR PAVEMENT ON RUNWAY 17-35 AND TAXIWAYS 11  AND 14, ELLINGTON AIR FORCE BASE

LOCATION:  HOUSTON, TEXAS

CLIENT:  CITY OF HOUSTON

CONSTRUCTION COST: $450,000

Several airfield pavement areas at Ellington AFB near Houston, Texas are interrupted by geologic faults. Movement of these faults resulted in damage to areas of pavement and a reduction of serviceable life and integrity. The pavement affected by the faults included areas on Runway 17-35, Taxiway 11 and Taxiway 14.  Many slabs were cracked and displaced vertically (faulted), while others had been patched. The objective of this project was to prepare plans and specifications to repair the pavement areas indicated as faulted or in need of repair.  The work plan for engineering services included identifying the extent of pavement which needed to be repaired, leveled, or replaced, designing the repair or replacement, estimating quantities and costs, and preparing plans and specifications for construction. Construction inspection and testing were also provided
