CAPITAL METRO TRANSIT AUTHORITY, 1992 BUS ROUTE ROADWAY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

The capital Metro Transit Authority and the City of Austin developed a list of streets utilized by Capital Metro buses that require improvements. The project consisted of providing professional engineering services to plan and design improvements for the following projects from the list: Brazos Street, from 1st to 11th Streets; W. 1st, from MoPac to IH-35; Colorado Street, from 1st to 11th; MLK Blvd., from IH-35 to Rio Grande; Congress Ave., from 1st to 11th; Hart Lane, from N. Hills to Far West Blvd; and Balcones Dr. from Hancock to RM 2222. Rehabilitation strategies included: asphalt overlays to increase pavement structure; edge mill to tie into existing curb and gutters and intersecting streets; full and partial depth repairs as necessary based on existing pavement conditions; underseal prior to overlay to aid in retarding reflection cracking in new asphalt; and consideration of concrete bus pads at bus stops as well as concrete bus lanes.  Design phase services included development of construction plans and specifications, bidding documents and construction cost/ time estimates. Bidding related services included distribution of plans and specs, pre-bid meeting, and recommendations for award of contract.
